The southwest monsoon has reactivated across Karnataka after a nearly two-week lull, bringing widespread rainfall and prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a seven-day weather warning for the state, effective until June 17.
Heavy rains were reported in several parts of the state early Thursday, with Hubballi in Dharwad district experiencing severe waterlogging, especially in Hanashi village, due to torrential downpours.
According to the IMD forecast:
- Coastal Karnataka will witness heavy to very heavy rain with wind speeds of 30–40 kmph, with extremely heavy rain likely in isolated areas of Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, and Udupi districts.
- North Interior Karnataka is expected to receive heavy to very heavy rain with winds reaching 50–60 kmph, particularly in Belagavi, Dharwad, and Gadag. Other districts such as Koppal, Haveri, Bagalkot, Vijayapura, Kalburgi, Raichur, Bidar, and Yadgir are also on alert for moderate to heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds.
- South Interior Karnataka will see fairly widespread rainfall till June 14, followed by widespread showers through June 17. Districts like Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, and Kodagu are likely to be hit with extremely heavy rainfall and winds of 50–60 kmph.
Other regions, including Bengaluru (Urban and Rural), Tumakuru, Mysuru, Davangere, and Hassan, are expected to experience heavy rain with winds between 40–50 kmph, while Chamarajanagar, Chitradurga, and Kolar are forecasted to receive moderate rainfall.
The IMD has urged residents to stay alert and take necessary precautions as the intense monsoon activity continues across the state until June 17.
